The CarCierge Journal A collector’s perspective
The story behind the steering wheel.
3 min read A considered perspective

With a collector car, the object and its history belong together. An attractive example is the beginning of the conversation, not the end of the research.
Provenance means the documented story of a car: its identity, ownership, servicing, restoration and significant changes. A persuasive story should be supported by records, rather than simply repeated from an advertisement.
Check that the available documentation relates to the vehicle in front of you. Where originality or a particular specification matters, involve a suitably qualified marque specialist. Photographs alone cannot establish authenticity or mechanical condition.
Decide what matters to your own collection. An extensively restored car and an unrestored example may offer very different ownership experiences. Neither description removes the need for careful inspection. Buy with a clear understanding of what is known, what is uncertain and what you will enjoy owning.
